The addition of flourishes to a page or even a line of Copperplate adds an individual decorative quality to the alphabet. Through a series of pencil excercises and simple drawing techniques, students are introduced to some of the basic forms and patterns of 18th century Copperplate flourishes and cartouches. We will learn when and where flourishing is appropriate and work on designing a flourished piece of calligraphy.
This workshop is for students who have a basic knowledge of Copperplate. Some experience with Copperplate variations is helpful but not essential. All materials are provided.
